Spring Treats

One of the best tasting mushrooms in the world, a Morel. The adventure finding them makes them even taste better.

Boyhood Haunts And More

The six males circled around a young female and she seemed flustered with all the attention. She eventually stepped out of the water and then they all wanted to still chase the other males off. This small flock had stopped nearby and fragmented from a larger flock. I like the tight curls on their tail, and colorful plumage. Mallards were the first duck I probably identified and always look for each spring. They were too engrossed in life to worry about the human nearby. Tired , many tucked their heads and took a quick nap. As children we dangled a string in this pond many times to catch crawfish, sometimes returning them on orders from our mothers.

I marvel at times when we sat up in this tree over a half century ago. I was glad to see it still standing.

Some rather pushy visitors to the area, they still are waiting for a flock of females to arrive.

You have pink animals, pink shirt and pink shoes, did you plan it this way? Yes, she replied. I teasingly asked if I could hold her animals, thinking they were too precious to part with. She handed them to me, and was amused when I sat them on a nearby car and took their picture. Thank you,  they like that,  she said. She ran to join a neighbor, leaving me with the toys to watch.

Life is good

Tulips coming up for a first year were given a cold shoulder, but have continued to grow. One day it was warm and the next we were covered in snow.  It melted quickly, but has stayed cold.
It was so cold the world became covered in ice crystals. I saw the  refraction and stopped to capture it. I was headed to a bird blind with a pair of grandchildren.

April Nears

This month slipped by and I hardly was able to keep track of my dates. I looked for any sign of
spring, looking in every nook and cranny. Lots of new babies on the farm and many new areas found to explore later in the year. I hope you all have had some warm great you even if it is only a few days.

Why to always have waxed paper in your car.
